Friends of Leeman Park

Scope

Posted: 4th August 2014

The initial motive to start the group initiated with Cinder Lane, which has been becoming increasingly scruffy. Nothing major, but it is evident that a little attention from the community could smarten up our route in and out of town to perform that last 10% of maintenance and attention to detail that the regular council maintenance is unable to do.

Naturally, the surrounding area is also considered in scope, and two main areas of focus have come to our attention since forming. Firstly, there is a lot of desire locally to improve Back Park (behind Salisbury Terrace), and York Council are ready to perform some additional planting in this area. This has opened up the opportunity for us to give our views on how we'd like this area to develop, as well as perform preparatory work or follow on from the planting that the council have in plan. Secondly, the council are keen to consult with the community on the future use of the site that has been recently vacated by the flood defence works compound, and so we have the opportunity to shape this consultation also. Also included in this consultation is a potential relocation of the war memorial that currently stands on Salisbury Road (near the vets).

Whilst we do need to limit how far and wide our scope reaches, we are open to all suggestions in this neighbourhood.
